👕 Uniform, Banner & Registration Notes
Your name will travel from a whiteboard to fabric, banners and online forms. Custom Ink’s cheerleading naming guide says squad names work best when they’re visible on both the front and back of uniforms, warm-ups and jackets. You can read the full guide on the Custom Ink blog.
Rules differ by school, gym and league. Character limits, spelling rules and approval steps can vary, so ask your coach or organizer before you order anything. When in doubt, choose the shorter version.
🚫 What to Avoid
Even great cheer team names can backfire with the wrong details. A few quick checks save you from reprinting uniforms.
- Hard-to-read spelling. Swapping letters for numbers confuses announcers and fans.
- Too many numbers. One short tag is plenty.
- Personal info. Skip full names, school addresses and phone numbers.
- Offensive or edgy words. Keep everything friendly and family safe.
- Borrowed brands. Don’t copy movie titles, characters or company names.
Read the final choice aloud in a crowded room. If people mishear it, change it.
✅ How to Check Availability and Stay Consistent
Nothing stings like discovering another squad owns your idea. A quick search takes ten minutes and prevents a headache.
Search the name online, then check social handles and ask your league or local gyms. Once you’ve picked a winner, use the same spelling on uniforms, banners, team photos and every account.
🧠 How to Choose a Great Cheer Squad Name: 8 Tips
Great picks share a few habits. Walk through these steps and your cheer team names shortlist gets smaller fast.
- Say it out loud. If it feels clumsy in your mouth, drop it.
- Keep it to two or three words. Short names fit uniforms and chants.
- Match your squad’s personality. Fierce, funny and sparkly all work when they feel true.
- Think about the banner. Picture the name in your colors.
- Test it with outsiders. Fans should understand it instantly.
- Check for double meanings. A joke can flip fast.
- Vote as a team. Shared ownership builds pride.
- Sleep on it. The best names still sound great the next morning.
